A Year Commenced with Purpose
As Week 2 draws to a close, there has been a genuine sense of energy and purpose across the campus. With a full week of lessons, training sessions, rehearsals and House activities now underway, the boys have settled quickly into the rhythm of school life, and it has been wonderful to see. Classrooms feel productive, co‑curricular programs have begun in earnest and there is a steady confidence building as routines take shape. It was also wonderful to see a full round of fixtures last weekend, both home and away, against Nudgee College.
As Week 1 concluded, the School hosted the Scholars’ Assembly, which is one of the most important occasions in our calendar. This gathering celebrated the academic achievements of the 2025 graduates and provided a special opportunity to welcome back 2023 Senior Boarder Prefect, Pat Savill. Pat shared reflections on his experiences at TGS and the valuable lessons he gained during his time here. It was truly gratifying to witness one of our recent Old Boys excelling beyond school, with Pat now making his mark in the field of engineering.
The Assembly was more than a celebration of academic results but rather it provided an opportunity to remind our current students of the necessary habits that underpin academic excellence. It was encouraging to see how many families were able to attend and share in the moment, reinforcing the partnership at the heart of each boy’s learning journey.
A highlight of the fortnight has been the progress on our new Design, Engineering and Technology Centre. The completion of the landscaping has revealed what is now largely the final presentation of the building and its surrounds. The boys have been naturally drawn to it, intrigued by the spaces and the possibilities it represents. The DET Centre is already shaping conversations in classrooms about innovation, creativity and future‑focused learning, and it has quickly become a point of pride for students and staff alike.
I might add that this Headmaster will not miss the noise and interruptions that come with having a building site next door to the residence. That said, the moment you see the boys and staff engaging so enthusiastically with the new facilities, it is clear that it has all been worth it.
We were also pleased to launch TGX, an exciting program that will broaden opportunities for our boys across a range of disciplines. The launch video can be found here: TGX. Both the DET Centre and TGX enrich our academic landscape, encouraging boys to explore new ideas and challenge their thinking.
As TGX experiences begin to weave through curriculum and year‑level programs later this term, the DET Centre will play an important role in supporting boys to think differently, collaborate creatively and approach learning with confidence.
Across the campus, there is a strong sense that the year has begun with purpose. Teachers are talking about the positive tone in classrooms, boys are settling well into expectations, and families have engaged warmly with the School during these first weeks. It is a promising beginning, and I look forward to building on this momentum as we support each boy to make the most of the opportunities ahead.
